“Jitter Glitter & You Got This: The Most Meaningful (and Affordable) Way I’m Showing Up for 175+ Students During EOG Season”
Share

✨ Let’s be honest… ✨
EOG season?
Not my favorite.
I teach virtually. I have 175+ students.
And every year, I wish I could do something big, meaningful, and personal for each one of them…
…but also?
Shipping costs are offensive.
So this year, I needed something that checked all the boxes:
- 💛 meaningful
- 💰 affordable
- ✋ personal
- 📬 mailable
- 🧠 actually helpful for testing anxiety
And that’s how Jitter Glitter got brought in. And I'll be honest -- I didn't create jitter glitter. I have seen the idea posted all around for years, and I certainly won't take credit for something I didn't come up with -- so kudos to who did come up with this idea!

What is “Jitter Glitter”?
It’s simple. It’s inexpensive. It's versatile. So many different ways to use and present this to your students. And it’s honestly kind of magic.
In my virtual teaching setting, each student will get:
- A small bag of mixed glitter (yes… just a sandwich bag 🙃)
- A sticker label (because branding matters, obviously)
- A postcard-style note from me
But here’s the part that makes it special…
💌 The Postcard 💌
I created post cards that will be sent with the jitter glitter.
✨ One side says: “you got this.”
Simple. Clean. Calm. (very Caffeinated Planner energy)
And beside the pre-printed text -- a personalized, written note to remind students of how amazing they are and to remind them of the most important piece of it all -- they ARE more than a test score.
✨ The other side? Instructions for how to actually use the jitter glitter.
Instead of just “good luck!!” and sending them on their way, I wanted to give them something actionable.
So I wrote directions like this:
- Hold your glitter and think about your test worries
- Shake it up and imagine those jitters breaking apart
- Watch the glitter settle as your mind calms
- Repeat the morning of the test
It gives them:
- a physical action
- a mental reset
- and something they can control
And honestly?
That matters more than anything I could review the night before.

💛 The Real Reason I Did This 💛
I could’ve printed something.
I could’ve automated something.
I could’ve saved myself HOURS.
But I didn’t.
Because I handwrote every single message.
All 175+ of them.
Not because it’s efficient…
but because it’s impactful.
These kids are about to walk into a high-pressure situation and be told their performance = their worth.
And I refuse to let that be the loudest voice they hear.
So every card reminds them: You are more than a test score. I am proud of you already.

Why This Works (Especially for Virtual Teachers)
If you teach virtually, you already know… Connection takes effort.
And getting real mail with their name on it? That hits different.
This isn’t just glitter and paper. It’s connection. It's encouragement. It's presence beyond the screen.
💰 Let’s Talk Cost (Because… real life) 💰
Here’s the breakdown:
- Sandwich bags ✔️
- Bulk glitter ✔️
- Printed postcards ✔️
- Stamps 😅
Even with postage, this stayed WAY more affordable than care packages or bulky mailers.
And way more meaningful than an email.

🧠 Teacher Tip: Make It Work for YOU 🧠
Don’t overcomplicate it.
You could:
- skip glitter and use confetti
- use envelopes instead of bags
- send digitally with a “shake your worries” visual
- have students make their own in class
The magic isn’t the glitter.
It’s the intentional encouragement.
☕️ My Final Sip ☕️
We can’t change testing season. But we can change how our students feel walking into it.
And if a tiny bag of glitter and a handwritten note helps even one student breathe a little easier?
Worth it. Every single time.
